Table of Contents

At Rhino Shield by Georgia Coatings, we are deeply committed to the meticulous preparation and application of our coating systems, taking great pride in the superior quality of their work compared to other coating contractors. We recognize that our clients expect timely and flawless installations from skilled professionals. Our team’s primary goal is to deliver the highest level of customer satisfaction with every job we complete.

The standard Rhino Shield installation procedure is outlined below. However, each project is unique, and there may be deviations from these steps depending on the job’s specific needs. To maintain consistent quality, only certified Rhino Shield applicators are authorized to install our system.

Step 1 – Conduct a Thorough Inspection

Step 1 Coating Process

A representative from Rhino Shield will thoroughly inspect the area slated for coating. They will identify and document any sections requiring particular care, such as wood that needs replacement or stucco needing repair. Following this, our team will devise a detailed work plan outlining the projected completion timeline, the required workforce, and any special equipment needed to ensure the project’s successful execution.

Step 2 – Cleaning and Washing

Every project begins with extensive cleaning, often involving a high-pressure wash. Our installation crew will diligently ensure your base material’s aesthetic and characteristics. The success of the Rhino Shield application largely hinges on the cleanliness of the surface. Ensuring the surface is spotless, dry, and devoid of dust, oil, mildew, algae, or surface powdering is crucial for optimal adherence of Rhino Shield Ceramic Coatings.  Therefore, our team will employ comprehensive cleaning strategies to enhance our paint’s adherence and uphold the longevity of our coating.

Step 3 – Make Repairs as Necessary

Depending on the severity of any wall damage, we will perform comprehensive repair or complete replacement of the affected areas. This could involve replacing decaying wood, mending patchwork, or fixing damaged stucco. Our primary aim is to restore the surface to its initial state to maintain its aesthetic appeal and promote a seamless coating application. Any existing damage is treated with utmost attention, ensuring a solid and reliable surface for the coating application.

Step 4 – Scraping

Step 4 Coating Process.png

Removing all loose paint and debris from the surface is essential for homes with wood exteriors. Our team may use sanding paper to scrape and remove loose paint that comes off readily. In some cases, we may employ paint removal tactics that involve chemical or mechanical stripping methods, though this is optional and depends on the specific case. Our primary objective is to create a surface conducive to bonding both our primer and the ceramic finishing layers.

Step 5 – Caulking

Step 5 Coating Process.png

Caulking plays a crucial role in a successful application process. We utilize a top-tier acrylic elastomeric caulk, as opposed to silicone caulk.  Our crew will effectively seal minor surface fissures, vertical joints, and horizontal gaps surrounding doors and windows to minimize moisture ingress. Any old or fractured caulk is removed during this phase. It’s important to note, however, that we generally avoid caulking beneath overlapping sections as this could potentially disrupt the appropriate ventilation of the siding.

Caulking aids in weatherproofing your property by blocking potential points of water entry. This not only reinforces the protective properties of the Rhino Shield paint but also helps maintain the structural integrity of the building. Therefore, this step, while seemingly minor, contributes significantly to the longevity and durability of the overall Rhino Shield coating.

Step 6 – Masking & Covering Up

Step 6: Masking

The installation team may temporarily protect, cover, or remove sections not intended for coating. Common elements often taken down include light fixtures, signage, drainpipes, window shutters, and mailboxes. Specific care is directed towards covering areas like rooftops, landscaping features, lawns, decks, and other areas that are susceptible to being sprayed by wind-carried particles.

Protecting non-targeted areas ensures a clean, precise application of Rhino Shield. Our team’s careful masking and covering procedures are designed to prevent accidental coating or damage to areas not intended to be painted.

Step 7 – Priming

Step 7 Coating Process.png

Once the prep work is complete, we get to priming. Unlike localized or spot priming, we engage in full-area priming. The aim is to create a seal that enhances water resistance and establishes a bonding medium for the ceramic finishing layer. The primer-sealer, upon application, is white but might dry to a transparent finish, depending on the specific Rhino Shield system being implemented.

Our primers form a preparatory layer that assists in binding the final ceramic coat to the surface. Moreover, the primer protects against water intrusion, helping protect the surface’s structural integrity.

Step 8 – Applying The Finish Coat

Step 8 Coating Process.png

After thorough preparation and priming, the surface is ready to have the Rhino Shield ceramic coating applied. The finish layer is applied at a high mil thickness (covering approximately 100 square feet per gallon). This offers your walls unparalleled protection. Certain areas, particularly highly absorbent areas, may require our crew to go back over them with a brush or a back-rolling technique.

The ceramic finish coat serves as the final layer of defense, bringing together all the previous steps of the Rhino Shield process. This coat, in addition to providing aesthetic appeal with its vast array of color choices, offers substantial protection for your walls against the elements

Step 9 – Perform Touch-Ups and Finishing Details

Step 9 Coating Process

Once the finish coat has been applied, our team will then refine and perfect the finish coat. This involves careful attention to intricate or restricted areas, touching them up to enhance the overall appearance and ensure our coating is uniform across all areas, big or small. This is an integral part of the Rhino Shield installation process, ensuring that every inch of your property looks its best and the finish coat is applied evenly throughout.

Step 10 – Clean Up

Step 10 Coating Process.png

Our installation team makes a concerted effort to ensure that the area is returned to its pre-work condition. This includes removing all protective measures, reinstalling any temporarily removed items, and thoroughly cleaning up residual waste or debris.

Step 11 – Final Inspection

Once the project has concluded, you’ll have an opportunity to assess the installation and paint job with the team lead. During this inspection, any remaining issues can be highlighted. We consider our job fully finished only when you, as the client, are completely satisfied with the Rhino Shield application on your property.
