Macon sits on the Fall Line, where red clay, long humid summers and sudden temperature swings work on a housing stock older than almost anywhere else in the state. Antebellum and Victorian houses in the Intown Historic District and Beall's Hill carry wood siding and painted trim recoated a dozen times over. Vineville and North Highlands mix Plantation Plain with early twentieth century frame construction. Shirley Hills and Ingleside are largely mid-century brick and stucco with painted mortar, and hairline cracks open there whenever a cold snap follows a warm week. Paint fills those cracks for a season and then splits again, which is why the ladders come back every three to five years. Rhino Shield is a ceramic coating built to a minimum thickness of 10 to 12 mils, eight to ten times heavier than a paint film, so it spans a moving joint instead of tearing at it. One application, and the 25-year coverage carries over to the next owner.
