Cherokee County's tree canopy is the thing that decides how an exterior ages up here. Towne Lake, Eagle Watch, Bradshaw Farm and The Woodlands were framed through the late 1980s and 1990s with brick or stone on the front and builder-grade hardboard everywhere else, plus cedar trim and the occasional synthetic stucco elevation. Thirty years on, that siding sits in shade for most of the day, holds moisture from Lake Allatoona in the air, grows mildew on the north walls and swells at the bottom courses where the grade is close. Hardboard is unforgiving once it starts to drink. Rhino Shield seals it with ceramic rather than skinning it with paint: 10 to 12 mils minimum over a washed, repaired and primed surface, eight to ten times heavier than the coat a brush leaves, locked to the board and still flexible when it moves. The 25-year warranty is transferable, so the next repaint stops being a line on the calendar.
